Flood Simulation Using HEC-HMS 4.8 for Ungauged Catchment During Extreme Events in Lui River, Hulu Langat

Abstract
Flooding is a natural disaster occurring globally and is increasing in frequency due to global warming and climate change. The Lui River in Hulu Langat has been identified as flood-prone by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID). This study presents a hydrological simulation of the Lui River using HEC-HMS 4.8, a widely used flood management software. The software models the rainfall-runoff response of the river basin for 50 and 100 Annual Recurrence Intervals (ARI). The hydrograph is determined by analyzing the rainfall-runoff relationship and comparing simulated peak discharge with observed data and hydrographs for ungauged watersheds using Hydrological Procedure No. 11 (HP11). Model calibration is performed to validate parameters for peak discharge and hydrograph shape. The findings indicate that the optimal design hydrograph is the one with the greatest peak as simulated by HEC-HMS. The design storm with the largest output serves as a guideline for future design, river flow research, and as a precaution for future events.
